KENOSHA POST 1865 MEMBER RECEIVES WDVA
RECOGNITION
David Goeldner, a volunteer veterans
service officer of the Wisconsin Veterans of Foreign
Wars, receives the Wisconsin Department of Veterans
Affairs (WDVA) Veterans Volunteer of the Year Award for
the period of Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2008.

The award was presented
to Goeldner (at left) by WDVA Acting Secretary Ken Black
(at right) during a Veterans’ Stakeholder Conference at
the department on March 31.
Each year WDVA presents Annual Veterans
Awards to recognize advocacy for and service to
veterans. Among his many volunteer activities, Goeldner
helps train the Kenosha Police and Fire Department in
recognizing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in veterans.
Goeldner is a Vietnam Veteran and
continues to serve as both the First District Service
Officer and Post 1865 (Kenosha) Service Officer. He has
drawn praise far and wide for his creative and dedicated
outreach programs on Veterans Benefits, as well as his
willingness to "show the way" for Veterans in need.
In addition to his Veterans Service work,
Dave Goeldner has served the Department of Wisconsin as
Community Service Chairman for several years.
Congratulations to a great VFW Member!

On Saturday, March 21, the

Desert Storm), Joe Whipple (USMC, Iraq), Pepijn Schmidt
(Army, Iraq), Bill Fedderly (Army, Desert Storm), Troy
Crippen (Army, Desert Storm), Kevin Wierzbicki (Army, OEF)

Fran Rice likes to keep her
hands busy. She does beautiful work with a Crochet
hook. Fran, who is Past Worthy Matron of Pike Chapter
#285, Order of the Eastern Star, also likes to help people,
especially Veterans. For the last year, she has been
making "lap robes" for disabled Vets in wheelchairs and
donating them through our Post to The Southeast Wisconsin
Veterans Facility at Union Grove. On March 5,
Commander Holton and Adam Stoll, Case Manager/Volunteer
Coordinator at the Facility went to Fran's home to pick up
five more lap robes and to present a letter of thanks and a
certificate of appreciation to Fran for her kind efforts.
Fran goes through a lot of
yarn. If you would like to keep Fran busy and help
some disabled Vets, get some yarn to Commander Holton.
He will see that Fran gets to work with it.
